CherryStoneGallery
is delighted to announce our 35th
ANNIVERSARY!
We can hardly believe it? We started out as a grassroots project
exhibiting a few local artists in Cora Holbrook’s empty and abandoned
general store on Railroad Avenue where her father also kept horses in the
back room some years earlier. Not long after, we began showing work by
Robert Motherwell, Jack Tworkov and Berenice Abbott. We hosted print
exhibitions of work by Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy
Lichtenstein compliments of Leo Castelli Gallery in NYC.
Like a
small museum, albeit a repository, we continue to promote local and
world-class artists placing a greater importance on the work rather than on
sales first. ,Without compromise, we continue to advocate and promote the
ongoing accomplishments ever evolving from within the Provincetown artists’
colony, greater New York and Boston. ,As year-round art dealers we continue
to run a summer gallery showcasing a “galaxy of modernists” as we have done
for three and a half decades. ,In view of this Cherry Stone Gallery
continues to promote the best names in the business that produce
extraordinary work of outstanding quality here on the Outer Cape.
Over the years our gallery has remained
small and personable which Motherwell enjoyed a great deal having once said
it reminded him of “how galleries were in the old days”. Consistent with
the gallery’s reputation our goal continues as it always has: to further the
careers of our artists as we champion their personal and artistic
achievements; to maintain professional exhibitions and to educate an ever
expanding community of collectors so that we may better assist them with
their acquisition process. Building lasting relationships with artists and
collectors who have traveled through the cultural world of Provincetown,
Truro and Wellfleet shall remain a time-honored tradition and a priority.
The Outer Cape has long been a
destination for artists seeking inspiration from its unusual light, sinuous
landscape and dramatic sunsets. These natural treasures have inspired
perceptual expressions by visual thinkers dating back to the early part of
the last century. By way of intrinsic necessity we move forward to embrace
this tradition as we give standing ovation to all of the great minds we have
known and admired.
The Cherry Stone Gallery
welcomes your enthusiasm and enlists your support as we venture through
another fabulous season. |
